WEDDING
INFORMATION & GUIDELINES
417 Cordelia,
Leslie Bradshaw, Minister
The Unity
Wedding Service is non-traditional, personalized and meaningful. It has been lovingly designed with beauty,
truth and simplicity. The
The sanctuary seating capacity
is 130, although many of the chairs are currently
in our social hall.
Birdseed may be distributed after the ceremony and used outside
only.
Flowers should be delivered no earlier than one hour
before the wedding unless
special receiving arrangements
are made.
If
flower petals are to be scattered down the aisle, an aisle cover must be used.
The
wedding must start on time. Family and
guests must leave after the normal
time of greeting, picture
taking and collecting of belongings, as our housekeeper
needs time to clean and be
ready for the next activity.
Video/Photographer:
Video taping may be done as you desire.
You should have
all the photos you
want. Permission is given to use cameras
from any angle andin
in any part of the actual
service as it is taking place. We do,
however, find that
too much activity can
distract from the sanctity of the ceremony.
The
church can provide small tables for the guest gook, gifts, and for a candle
lighting ceremony. Should you include the candle lighting as
part of your
ceremony, you will need 2
eight or ten inch tapers and 1 large wedding candle.
If larger candelabrum are
desired, they can be rented from an outside source.
All physical changes to church property must have
prior approval and must be
returned to their original state, immediately following the service.
Thank you for not smoking within the church building.
PRACTICAL SUGGESTIONS FOR A
JOY FILLED WEDDING DAY
1.
Call the church office at
least a week before the wedding to confirm the date, time and any additional
details or changes.
2.
Bring your license,
certificate, candles and guest book to the church office the day before
the wedding, if at all possible. This
can lessen the stress and pressure of remembering everything in the last minute
rush.
3.
Generally, a rehearsal is
not necessary. The simpler a wedding is,
the more beautiful. Unity seeks to focus
on the inner meaning of the consecration of the couple involved rather than an
outer show that is staged to impress. A
complicated wedding does not insure a good marriage.
4.
The minister will consult
with you to detail and work out your plans and desires so that your wedding can
be all that you envision. There are some
special additions that may be included at your request, such as:
A special address/blessing to both sets of
parents at the beginning of the ceremony.
Candle lighting ceremony for the bride and
groom.
Candle lighting ceremony to include any children who
are also stepping
into new roles as members of
one family. Because so many marriages
now involve those who have children, a
special blessing for the new family
unit can be done. This allows children to feel included and
involved in
this important event.
Remember that
this is YOUR wedding and you may have it done as YOU
choose.
Our prayers and blessings enfold
you both as you embark on this part of your life journey.
